We learn to embrace the unexpected, follow evidence over opinion and accept that most experiments fail
I’ve been thinking recently about the psychology of research: both the sort of personalities that go into it and what the effects are of pursuing it. Those are probably tied together inextricably, since when we look at scientists themselves we’re seeing the effects of survivorship bias. The sorts of people who don’t like this sort of work don’t go into it in the first place, or don’t stay with it when they do.
