Bodies representing over 1000 universities want guarantee of UK involvement in European research programme
Groups representing over 1000 universities, 56 national scientific academies and other research organisations have written to the European commission president Ursula von der Leyen demanding clarity over the UK’s participation in the EU’s research programme Horizon Europe.
While the UK is slated to be an associate member of the €95bn (£81bn) research programme, a formal agreement remains unsigned. The delay is linked to on-going trade negotiations between the UK and EU over the Northern Ireland protocol, which keeps the province in the EU’s single market post-Brexit.
