Stipend increases apply to more than 17,000 early-career researchers
The National Institutes for Health (NIH) has announced that it will substantially increase pay for the more than 17,000 early-career researchers supported on agency’s National Research Service Awards (NRSAs), as well as childcare subsidies.
The stipends for predoctoral scholars will rise by approximately 4% to $28,224 (£22,517), and those for postdoctoral scholars will jump by about 8%, with salaries starting at $61,008, rising based on years of experience. The agency aims to further increase pay over the next five years to reach the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director’s recommended starting stipend of $70,000 for postdoctoral NRSAs.
